Henry Rono's Coaching

Henry Rono trains with and coaches Team Rono five days a week in Albuquerque, NM. Henry meets with an adult group Tuesday and Thursday evenings and with a youth group Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings. If you are interested in joining Team Rono, training with Henry and being a part of his story of triumph, you must be a competitive runner 18 years of age or older. Atalelech Asfaw

Birthplace: Ethiopia

In Ethiopia: Atalelech’s athletic career began in high school on the field, not the track. A high jumper, she was coaxed by a high school friend to join her to run a 1500 meter race. After a week of training she ran and won in an outstanding 4:30, and received a small cash prize. The money was very welcome at home, and she was encouraged to keep running. Atalelech had great success with her high school team, and after about a year she made the Ethiopian national team, with which she traveled to international competitions. It was any runner’s dream.

Career Highlights: Member of Ethiopian team at the 2001 and 2002 World Cross-Country Championships; 5K – 15:55; 8K – 26:20, and 10K – 32:47.
